Interesting how Nana doesn't recognize "Aunt" Kate's messenger bird (she sees her familiar emblem on the scroll), but in a later strip we see D-Man recognizes and hisses at (attacks) the messenger bird itself (sans scroll and identifying emblem) right away. As if they corresponded many, many times (more than Kate and Nana).

I'd think more that he knows the crow/raven is Kate's emissary , so any crow/raven gets his wrath. He scarcely knows or cares about the message.

He knows the crow is hers. He says, "Send her my regards" right after attacking it. Nana, on the other hand, didn't recognize the crow as Kate's; she just recognized her mark on the scroll.
