September 10, 2018: Good-bye, Porn
he will
Call me Celina. This forum still have a long way to go until it gets filled with its intended public. And I'll do my best to help us reach that goal. I'm a battleaxe, and when you hear my voice it'll be as loud as a thunder and as clear as a blue sky.
For quite a while now, Tat got this habit of making each week into a mini storyline that gets a sunday payoff. It makes sense in a way, exploring different aspects of a topic and all that. Still, considering this and the two following strips, I think just having this one alone would have been stronger.
It's a classic, strong comic strip with underlying implications, even without the corner text. By itself it tells the entire story. Including devil Squig in the next one isn't adding anything, it's just spelling out the intention. The third one is kinda meta in that it's really just dragging the message out to the point where it's a time waster.
So to come full circle, here is my point. I get that making thematic weeks and concluding sunday strips is a thing. But it frequently leads to empty strips that are simply there to connect the dots. I like the slick strip because it has some further characterization with a neat joke, similar for the mask guy strip. The Zombie strip again seems superfluous as it' simply a setup for sunday and could just as well have been part of said larger comic.
It's not like there ever was a time where every daily strip was a big hit. But I feel like at some point Tat stopped doing something with every strip and just saw them as something he has to go through to get to the good part. :/
