Are not borders all historically arbitrary reference points, to be cast down and transgressed until they are functionally eliminated in our greater, ahistorical enlightenment?

Incidentally, isn't funny how transgression of borders (in the name of a greater unity), often is just a sideways effort at a new imperialism by presuming the eradication of the border must happen on the terms of and to the benefit of the transgressor?

Indeed, borders are often membranes.
