I often wonder what would actually happen if Lilly actually got his old memories back. His personality totally changed, I think most would agree, for the better when he came into contact with the Lethe water.

Lily's personality's only better than the old Li'l E's was because it's mostly Lethe'd out and left him "reborn" kind of innocent, like he was when he was a baby. I vaguely recall Lily getting bits of memories back, like when he spontaneously teared up remembering no one came to his birthday party. He never reverted back to Li'l E personality though, possibly because up until now he's been under Lilith's protection.
